Held this Monday, August 18, at the archaeological museum in Cimiez, the city of Nice presented the fourth book, 21 Dates in the History of Nice and Its County. Itโs a book that provides a better understanding of the city’s evolution up to 2020, spanning over 400,000 years.
On the front cover, published by the city of Nice, seven important figures are depicted from left to right on the heights of Nice. These personalities, according to Jean-Marc Giaume, Deputy for Scientific Culture, represent the different significant eras of the city of Nice. Among them are the man from Terra Amata, Antonia Minor, mother of Emperor Claudius, Amรฉdรฉe VII, Catherine Sรฉgurane, Jousรฉ Garibaldi, a winter visitor from the Belle รpoque, and a resistance fighter.ย
A dozen historians studied a period ranging from Prehistory to Antiquity, from the Middle Ages to contemporary times. This fourth edition is illustrated by Marie-Christine Lemayeur and her husband Bernard Alunni. Both have been painters and illustrators for over 30 years. They have worked on a hundred books for children on various themes, including prehistory, space, the seaโฆย ย
Making the History of the Territory Accessible
โWhen COVID happened, you were all very young or not even born, for that matter, five years ago, we couldn’t go out, work, or go to offices. I suggested to my team of historians and the museum director to work on Zoom to share our history,โ said Jean-Marc Giaume, elected for Scientific Culture, to children from leisure centers.
Each historical period is narrated and explained by the deputy and the director of the archaeological museums of Nice, Bertrand Roussel, based on the actors who brought them to life and their periods. Created in 2023 by the metropolis of Nice Cรดte d’Azur, the Nissa Scientifica edition is a collection of scientific books to understand and make the culture of Nice accessible.
