For two weeks, the gardens of Nice are celebrated with free activities for young and old throughout the city: walks, activities, and fun workshops to discover or rediscover the city’s plant heritage.
Potager en Ville was selected by the association La Sauge in Paris to organize the first edition of a national-scale operation: “The 48 Hours of Urban Agriculture,” which takes place in the Sacha Sosno garden. This event will consist of two days of festivities, activities, and learning at the foot of La Tête Carrée.
The cultural aspect is also very present with the presentation of an artwork, “The Art of Life,” specifically commissioned by Potager en Ville for this event to the designers from the school “The SDS” of the eco-valley, and created by two companies from Nice, Spada and SEC.
This will make this ephemeral moment on urban agriculture lasting.
The purpose of this event is to raise public awareness of urban agriculture and all the practices that this term encompasses: vegetable gardens, shared gardens, green buildings, urban oases, small livestock, etc.
Urban agriculture is addressed to all audiences (citizens, associations, businesses, communities, start-ups, peri-urban farmers…) and can be practiced in various places (streets, public gardens, balconies, terraces, shared properties, rooftops…).
In addition to the food aspect, urban agriculture has many benefits for the resilience of cities facing climate change: it promotes soft mobility, absorbs CO2, reduces urban temperature, and even reduces the risk of flooding.
