The first Marathon in France after Paris, the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon, with the cooperation of its title partner the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes and the support of the Cities of Nice and Cannes, is set to welcome in less than a month now, on Sunday, November 10, more than 10,000 participants.


marathon_2013-6.jpg Marathon record-holder, Paula Radcliffe, invited by Peace and Sport, the organization for Peace through Sport, the charitable partner of the event, will start this 6th edition as the patron.

The runners will set off from the Promenade des Anglais in Nice to the Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes, just a stone’s throw from the Palais des Festivals.

Since its first edition in 2008, competitors of the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon have continuously praised the incredible beauty of this route drawn along the sea, lined with palm trees and framed by mountains.

A unique course in the world that, apart from the cities of Nice and Cannes, crosses 6 other emblematic towns in the department enhancing the event: Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, not to forget Antibes Juan-les-Pins and Vallauris Golfe-Juan.

This 6th edition promises once again to be rich in sporting moments since, apart from the traditional athlete contingent, legends from the world of athletics will partake in the event this year.

The Peace and Sport team will also be represented in the race with the illustrious Wilson Kipketer, Triple World Champion in the 800 m who will run the individual Marathon event and will be the patron of the Peace and Sport team. The team will compete in the relay format with the great Hicham El Guerrouj, middle distance and long distance specialist and world record holder in the 1500m, and the Frenchman Marc Raquil, 400 m specialist, not forgetting Vรฉnuste Niyongabo, who was the first and only Burundian to win the Olympic Champion title in 5000 m at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.

The Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon continues to cement its status as an international event, recording this year a total of 60 nations for 31% of international competitors. Last year, the event recorded 58 nations for 29% of international competitors.

The course record has been held since 2011 by the Kenyan Lukas Kanda with a time of 2h08โ€™40โ€™โ€™.

However, the event is not only aimed at individuals as the Alpes-Maritimes Nice- Cannes Marathon also offers the option to run the 42.195 km by a team of 6 with the Marathon Relay Caisse d’Epargne Cรดte d’Azur or by 2 with the 2ร—21.1 km since this year.
