The A VENDRE gallery in Nice presents “Monsters of Sound”.

Latest News

Monsters of Sound is an exhibition presented by the Artsenal collective in partnership with the gallery “Espace A VENDRE.” This exhibition, part of the NUZIQ Festival, explores the theme of new musical energy through the series “Monsters B4 & after” by Katrin Fridriks (Artsenal) and the exploration of “beach culture” by Lionel Scoccimaro, an artist showcased multiple times by Espace A VENDRE.

Lionel Scoccimaro ‘beach culture’

Born in 1973 and based in Marseille, Lionel Scoccimaro’s work has been followed by the Galerie Alain le Gaillard (Paris) and has been prominently featured on the national and European art scene for several years. After being highlighted at the Fiac in 2004 and 2005 and the 400 m² of the St Fons art center, the artist returns to his exploration of “beach culture” for the “Monsters of Sound” exhibition. His Mini Surf Car, a supercharged, customized, and stickered 1971 Austin Mini, serves as a prelude to the discovery of waves, inviting us to delve deeper into the universe of this American counterculture that has invaded the behavioral modes of Western countries. A jukebox integrated into the vehicle plays various styles of music from Californian surf culture, from religious trash to reggae. The surrounding photographs illustrate various clichés from this “Custom” culture and “Surf beach attitude.”

Katrin Fridriks “Monsters B4 & after”

Born in 1974 in Iceland, Katrin Fridriks has lived in Luxembourg, Germany, and the United States, and is now based in Paris. Her work is the result of cultural intermingling. Her vigorous, organic style, blending hot and cold colors, mixes techniques from graffiti artists and abstract painting. “A universal script that circulates in the global village of suburbs, an eruptive hardcore energy like that from the volcanoes of her native country or the urban metropolises.” Fueled by alternative cultures, Katrin presents the series “Monsters B4 & After.” A “musico-pictorial” work that develops around fantastical characters inspired by DJs from the “electro” planet. Jennifer Cardini, Laurent Garnier, Isolée, Justus Koehncke, and others are transformed under her paintbrush/diamond into “Monsters” of digital or vital energy—as you see fit. One of Katrin Fridriks’ canvases is part of the collection of the National Museum of Iceland. In 2007, after Combas, she was invited for a retrospective of her work at the Musée du Palais Bénédictine.
