This collective exhibition of nearly twenty artists calls us to emotion, to each person’s feelings. Depardieu Gallery invites within its walls, in its new space, well-known artists, regulars like Ultra-violet or Hannaka among others, and painters or visual artists who come to carve their name into the already rich marble of this gallery.
Attention is given, honor to the women, to Lise Stoufflet, whose watercolors, drawings and etchings are impressive and striking. There is psychoanalysis within each of them, and the artist reveals herself without false modesty, showing us her universe where a little girl without legs is chained to a staircase railing, teddy bears levitate, and there is a duality between hate and love, without puns or rhyme search, but with the concern of exposing two opposites.
They separate, oppose, and eventually blend with each other. Lise Stoufflet hasn’t told us everything; it’s up to us to discover her, lift the veil a bit more to better understand her.
The second artist we’ll mention: Peter Schlör, with his animated shadows, shadows freed from men or men freed from the constraint of light doing what they want with their shadow? There too, one witnesses a duality between two antithetical themes. When the artist declares to us that man is the dream of a shadow, we immediately have the antithesis with the shadow becoming the image of the body.
The man, his shadow, his reality, the body, a monochrome silhouette, black, dark, shadow of the shadow, it’s up to us to judge. This immaterial and abstract image gives a different dimension. We have passed to the other side, into another dimension. Peter Schlör thus invites us to talk to our shadow, get to know it better, and dominate it. The other artists respond to this theme of observed nature with an artist’s eye, a persevering eye that gets lost in a magnificent garden so well described by André Pharel, another artist present at this exhibition.
It is until June 20 at the Depardieu Gallery in Nice that the public can discover and appreciate these artists in a journey to the center of oneself, a captivating journey with this mobile and painting where the subject escapes the frame! There is a bit of wonder where Alice, perhaps, has strayed. An exhibition not to be missed!
