The cultural events of the summer season were presented in the magnificent setting of the Asian Arts Museum under a blazing sun that illuminated the splendid terrace overlooking the Exotic Garden, offering a spectacular view of the “big blue.”

“The culture is a commitment and our guiding principle,” affirmed the department president Eric Ciotti in front of an audience of elected officials, cultural operators, and artists.

In fact, the program for these summer months is rich with events and will reach virtually all the municipalities, from the coast to the inland valleys.

The three major events are “The Summer Evenings,” the “Festival of Words,” and the “Madness of the Lakes.”

The “Summer Evenings,” in their 21st edition, will include 413 performances in 155 municipalities and will involve more than 1,000 artists. They will take place from June 25 to September 18, and all forms of artistic expression are included with the aim of making culture accessible to all audiences.

Since 1995, the year of the first edition, there have been 6,917 free performances and more than 3 million spectators. This goes to show how much this cultural offering has enlivened the territory!

The Festival of Words consists of 8 public readings of classical texts by renowned actors: a moment of reflection and shared pleasure. From July 14 to 30.

The “Madness of the Lakes” is an original idea to present concerts in the open air in magnificent sites and amid the splendid landscapes of the Mercantour. On July 22, 23, and 24, more than 3,000 spectators will gather to enjoy these open-air concerts and appreciate classical music, jazz, blues, or other music from around the world.

All these events will add value to the department’s economic policy: as President Eric Ciotti rightly reminded us, while “culture is what elevates us,” it also plays a full role in the international tourist competition, being an increasingly important lever of attractiveness.
