The Alpes-Maritimes in Olympic shape at the Paris International Agricultural Show

Latest News

Since 2005, the General Council has been reserving and setting up a booth at the Paris International Agricultural Show to present all the agricultural productions of the Alpes-Maritimes. This year, the mountains will be particularly highlighted within the framework of the pre-candidature for hosting the Winter Olympics: Nice 2018. The Alpes-Maritimes Chamber of Agriculture coordinates, for its part, a program of animations around three axes: presentation of the different facets of agriculture in the Alpes-Maritimes, tasting, and sale of products.

Throughout the duration of the show, from Saturday, February 21 to Sunday, March 1, vintners, horticulturists, breeders, beekeepers, and olive growers will showcase their products:
– Saturday 21, Sunday 22, and Monday 23 February: AOC Olive de Nice and animations around honey,
– Tuesday, February 24: demonstration of bouquet-making, educational farm – circuits of Saint-Cézaire, and horticulture,
– Wednesday, February 25: viticulture: wine from Baous and bouquet-making, horticulture animation, presentation of the educational farm,
– Thursday, February 26: viticulture: presentation of the wines from Baous and Bellet. Educational farm with circuits of Saint-Cézaire and horticultural animations.
– Friday 27 and Saturday 28 February: viticulture: wines from Baous and Bellet and animations around Castagniers Angora wool.
– Sunday, March 1: viticulture: wine from Bellet.

All the products presented are derived from traditional methods and modern techniques that respect the environment. They will be for sale at the booth.

Let’s recall that at the SIA 2008, 23 products were awarded: 5 gold medals, 9 silver, and 9 bronze.

Some figures about agriculture in the Alpes-Maritimes:
– 2,000 agricultural holdings including 770 professional farms
– 7,000 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect
– 103,000 hectares make up 25% of the department’s area
– Three-quarters of the added value are achieved by specialized crops (2/3 ornamental horticulture and 1/6 vegetable growing): 40% of the farmers.

As part of its agricultural policy, the General Council has implemented numerous actions aimed at developing the agricultural world, facilitating the establishment of young farmers, aiding in the development of productions, encouraging quality initiatives, promoting research, supporting livestock farming, and reconciling agriculture with the environment.
