From September 18, 2013, to September 28, 2013, the André Malraux, the new research vessel of the DRASSM*, is conducting operations off the coast of Nice and other municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes. Throughout its research duration, the André Malraux is moored at the port of Nice.

Equipped with the latest detection equipment, this vessel is conducting various operations as part of creating the map of maritime cultural assets of the Alpes-Maritimes department.

This campaign includes an operation conducted jointly with the underwater unit of the archaeology service of the City of Nice.

Indeed, as part of the heritage policy implemented since 2008 by the City of Nice to promote and develop archaeological research, the Archaeology Service of the City of Nice has, for the past three years, established a department of underwater archaeology. Thus, Nice is the only territorial collectivity in France able to intervene in both terrestrial and maritime archaeological domains.

Initially, the Archaeology Service of the City of Nice intervened on the Jetée-Promenade casino, and for the past two years on the old Emmanuel-Philibert pier, built off the Ponchettes.
