It was during a meeting organized last night that the Animal Collective took stock of the 2017 legislative elections and the situation of the Animalist Party.
The Animal Collective 06 chose to hold its meeting at Villa Lรฉonie, located on Avenue Gustavin, near the Port of Nice. And for the occasion, a special guest made the trip.
Jacques Leboucher, president of the National Confederation for Man, Animal, and the Planet, of the MHAN (Movement for Man, Animal, and Nature), and of the ARPA (Association for the Respect and Protection of Animals), was also present at this meeting.
The purpose of his presence was to assess the enthusiasm for animal defense in French politics. The 2017 legislative elections are fast approaching, and the Animalist Party is determined to make its mark.
Christian Razeau, founder of CA 06, first introduced the different associations in front of a small group of attendees, notably mentioning the ADA with whom he organizes conferences and meetings in universities. Then he shared his own experience: โIt starts with defending our animals and then it becomes the defense of all animals,โ he says.
Chantal, a sympathizer of the collective, tells the story of Tao, the dog accompanying her: โHe was mistreated and we took him in. But he remained traumatized and the vets said he had after-effects.โ
The members then discussed the work of A214, which โdid a great job revealing the slaughterhouse scandal,โ Christian Razeau praises before handing the floor to Jacques Leboucher.
Leboucher talks about the 2017 legislative elections that are fast approaching: โwe could present 60 to 100 candidates. With all the associations combined, we are approaching 240,โ he states. However, the number of candidates is still insufficient. โWe are missing about twenty,โ concedes Jacques Leboucher.
This is followed by the anecdote of Rama Yade, a vehement anti-bullfighting advocate, who wished to join the confederation with her movement during a demonstration in the Landes against a bullfight.
The animalist confederation gathers four animal defense associations. The electoral campaign is slowly preparing. Another issue is the limited subsidies: โtoday we only have 32,000 euros per year instead of 42,000 per year. This complicates things,โ laments Christian Razeau.
The meeting concluded after about an hour and a half of discussion, around a small reception.
