The archives of the newspaper Le Patriote transferred to the departmental archives

Latest News

The official transfer of the archives of the newspaper Le Patriote to the Departmental Archives will take place on Monday, July 7, in the presence of Eric Ciotti and Mr. Jack Closse, the former manager of the newspaper.

25 linear meters of archives, including 2 linear meters of documents related to the operation of the title, have been collected and will be made available to researchers. They will become part of the press collection at the Departmental Archives.

Whether it is general information or specialized, the press represents a very important collection. It has been available to researchers in the reading room since 1944 and online for numerous titles on the website from 1848 to 1943.

The Departmental Archives are a fundamental source for understanding and writing the history of a territory.

Their richness is based on three main points:

The antiquity, as the oldest document, the donation of the Abbey of Lérins, dates back to 1022;

The quantity and diversity, as nearly 36 linear kilometers of document boxes on paper, photographic collections, cinematic, and sound archives are preserved;

The plurality of addressed domains, as the archives hold documents that cover various fields such as political, economic, social, or cultural history.
