On Monday, September 17, a 31-year-old national police officer was assaulted during a traffic stop that escalated in the heart of Nice.
This afternoon, the attacker (a 27-year-old Cape Verdean) turned himself in at a Municipal Police station, and he was handed over to the National Police and taken into custody.
We can only confirm what we wrote on September 18 (“The images we never want to see”) on this same subject: Each person’s freedom comes with respect for others. There can be no compromise on this matter.
Given the seriousness of the facts, the punishment for the guilty party must be commensurate with these indefensible acts.
Christian Estrosi reacted promptly: “I am pleased to learn that the alleged attacker surrendered early this afternoon.
In order to resolve this unacceptable case, we have made every effort to best support the State in its sovereign mission of security. For greater efficiency, our surveillance camera images from the Urban Supervision Center have been immediately transmitted to the National Police”.
