Generosity is a beautiful virtue, and in truth, it is a gesture that ennobles its author.
The attack on July 14 and its tragic outcome have led to numerous initiatives, each more commendable than the last. However, some coordination could only improve the effectiveness of the action and the result, and prevent dispersion.


There are public funds for this purpose, with the amount currently allocated amounting to 4.4 million euros, managed by the Guarantee Fund for Victims of Acts of Terrorism and Other Offenses. The Nice city hall is collecting funds that will be transferred to the Fondation de France; the Nice municipal authorities have signed an agreement with Fenvac, and local associations have taken various initiatives.

It is well understood that everyone wants to contribute, but care must be taken not to overlap too much. When the situation is already quite confused, order and method should be the guides.

This association to assist the victims of the Nice attack was launched a month after the tragedy. Created with the support of Fenvac and mainly composed of families of victims and the injured, it is intended to “allow those who wish to unite to better face the dramatic consequences of this attack.”

The National Federation of Victims of Terrorist Attacks and Collective Accidents (Fenvac) has already identified nearly 4,000 people affected by the attack.

Vincent Delhomel-Desmarest, a restaurateur who was present on the Promenade des Anglais at the time of the attack and secretary-general of the association “Promenade des Anges,” explains: “Some of us will find ourselves in social rupture, there are still over 200 hospitalized.* If, to physical and psychological suffering, we add material concerns, things become very complicated. We are 69 million; if each of us gives one euro multiplied by 69 million, that makes 69 million euros.”

The calculation is simple, though somewhat simplistic: if it were always so, many problems would no longer exist…
