The association denounces that two young exiles, H., from Bangladesh, and S., from Mali, were evicted from the shelter (where they were put up the same day, during the Covid-19 health crisis) by the Child Welfare Services (ASE) in contradiction to all the confinement and travel restriction rules set by the State.
The association is exploring the possibility of taking legal action regarding these two youths so they can receive child protection until they reach the age of majority, if established, as well as the validity of possible asylum applications. In 29 cases over two years, the judicial authority has recognized the right to assistance for these refugees.
According to its president David Nakache: “However, whether minors or young adults, the fact that two young exiles, who likely came through Italy two months ago, were left on the street is completely inconsiderate and irresponsible, both for their health and public health.”
In the evening, the Departmental Council responded by denying that the two youths are minors. If they are of age, it would be the State’s responsibility to take care of them.
