The astonishing friendship between Yves Klein and Arman revealed in a documentary

This Wednesday, at the MAMAC, the documentary “Yves Klein and Arman, The Void and The Full” was screened as a preview in the presence of the director Catherine Aventurier. It will be broadcast at the start of the new season on the channel France 5.

Many artists, throughout the extraordinary journey of art history, have cultivated unwavering friendships as well as serious rivalries. The friendly, almost brotherly relationship between Yves Klein and Arman is not necessarily well known to the general public. “This film is part of a series about artist duos that populated art history, aimed at understanding how their practices evolved and how they influenced each other. It was a challenging topic, as this friendship is little known, and we had to reach out to their families who helped us a lot,” explained Catherine Aventurier.

For a little less than an hour, the documentary explores the life and work of two major figures of the New Realists movement. With a subtle touch of emotion, we discover Yves Klein’s dizzying obsession with the spiritual depth of color, in which he immerses himself to transcend and conquer the void. Arman, on the other hand, accumulates objects and creates works that are almost sociological, enveloped by this fascination with the consumption and production of things. The void and the full. Yet, the two men respect, admire, and support each other, driven by the fever of a common ambition: to challenge the codes of art.

A very beautiful documentary to discover at the start of the new season on France 5.
