The city of Nice was the first in the world in 1948 to “invent” the Jazz Festival, forever linking its name to this musical domain. After the success of the 2011 Festival, the Grappelli Hall proposes to continue the journey into the world of jazz through a high-quality program.
Once the curtain falls on the numerous summer jazz festivals, jazz enthusiasts can still satisfy their appetite from October to June in what has become the temple of Niçois jazz. Since its opening in January ’84, the Grappelli Hall has consistently risen to the highest ranks of European venues hosting jazz music. Its capacity of 300 seats has attracted a large regional audience who can attend prestigious concerts in a rare closeness with the artists.
Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice: “By moving the Jazz Festival from the Arènes de Cimiez to the Théâtre de Verdure, Nice will once again be able to rise to the forefront of events celebrating it. But we are not abandoning the Cimiez hill because once the curtain falls on the summer jazz festivals, the Grappelli Hall, a high point of jazz for nearly 30 years, will resume its annual program and unfold for you all the trends of this music, from acoustic jazz to jazz fusion, without forgetting the roots of blues and world jazz.”
