In this photo contest ‘Disability at Work, Employees in Focus!’, organized by IMS PACA, 100 employees from 14 companies participated.

The award ceremony will take place this Wednesday, May 30th, in the reception rooms of Nice Airport.

Indeed, despite the communications and actions implemented by companies, disability remains largely taboo in the professional environment. Disability is essentially perceived negatively, and stereotypes about disabled people are still prevalent in companies. Consequently, it is not surprising that recruiting disabled workers is still difficult and that many people hide their disability from their colleagues.

To break the taboos and change mindsets, around a hundred employees, both with and without disabilities, submitted more than 200 photos, each depicting what disability at work can be. Far from lengthy speeches, these photos present the objective reality of situations in which disabled people find themselves, taking viewers on a visual journey through various professional environments according to each person’s experiences and reflections.

To disseminate these photographs as widely as possible, IMS has produced on this occasion a publication ‘Disability at Work: Employees in Focus’, aimed at companies and their employees. Presenting the different categories of disabilities (visual impairment, hearing impairment, debilitating illnesses, motor disabilities, intellectual disabilities, psychiatric disabilities), the book tackles preconceived notions and presents good practices for everyone to adopt so that every company becomes disability-friendly.

Produced from work done in PACA, this publication will be distributed by IMS and AGEFIPH throughout France.

A traveling photo exhibition, presented for the first time on May 30, 2012, is also made available to companies.
