Italy and Uruguay faced off in a prestigious match, even though many players were absent.
It was a good rehearsal for the Nazionale, who wanted to challenge the tough Uruguayan team to have a true test before the upcoming events in September.
The match ended with a clear and logical victory for Italy (3-0). Ventura’s men largely dominated the game. Uruguay offered little resistance and almost didn’t exist offensively.
Italy took the lead in the 7th minute. Atlético Madrid defender José Gimenez sent a superb half-volley into his own net while trying to prevent the unstoppable Belotti from shooting. Italy perfectly controlled the first half, but Belotti’s substitution at halftime slightly hindered Italy’s advancement.
In the second half, Caceres thought he had equalized with a header following a free kick, but his goal was disallowed for a foul on Montolivo (60th minute).
In a match that was often tense and not very friendly, Italy accelerated again in the final quarter-hour. Eder doubled the lead, converting a cross-shot from Gabbiadini, who had just come on (83rd minute).
Gimenez, on an off night, then conceded a penalty for a foul on El Shaarawy, which De Rossi converted (90+2 minutes).
