This Saturday evening, Nice Volley-Ball hosted Tourcoing at the Giamarchi hall, as part of the 16th day of the Marmara Spike League. Despite two fiercely contested first sets, the Eagles lost in three sets (28-30/21-25/18-25).
To end this terrible streak, the Eagles are in dire need of points in the battle to stay in the Marmara Spike League. The team from Nice is on a five-match losing streak in the championship, the most recent one was last Tuesday in Poitiers. Nice Volley-Ball remains stuck in 12th place, with only a three-point lead over the last-place team, Saint-Jean-dโIllac. The opponent of the evening was Tourcoing. It was not an easy matchup for the Eagles, as the Greens hold 5th place in the championship. However, in the first half, the team from Nice had caused a surprise in the North, one of only three victories for Nice this season.
The start of the match was in favor of Nice, who took the lead early in the game. But Tourcoing caught up at the brink of the money time in the first set. Ultimately, Tourcoing won this first set (28-30), despite four set points saved by Nice. A lapse mid-set had hurt the Eagles.
The Eagles once again chase the score
Despite dominating, the Eagles couldn’t manage to close out and win the first set. Led by Simon Hirsch in attack, Nice kept level with their opponent for the night. Yet again, the Northerners made the difference in the middle of the set. The Greens took up to a four-point lead. With a final block out from Nice, Tourcoing won the second set (21-25).
Teammates of Rodney Ah-Kong were once again against the wall. This scenario has repeated itself often this season for the Eagles. The entry of Luis Paolinetti was beneficial for Niceโs side. But once more, the difference was made mid-set. The Greens had as much as a seven-point lead. The Eagles gave in. Tourcoing secured the win in three sets (28-30/21-25/18-25). Nice Volley sinks deeper into the crisis, with a sixth consecutive defeat in the championship.
The next match for the Eagles is scheduled for next Saturday, January 20th. Nice Volley will travel to Montpellier as part of the 17th day of the Marmara Spike League. The match is set to start at 8 PM.
