As part of the “Airs en famille” season, the Nice Baroque Ensemble will perform a program of suites and concertos by BACH, father & son, Johann Sebastian and Carl Philipp Emanuel.
While Johann Sebastian Bach left a significant mark on music history, considered as “the greatest of musicians, the Homer of music” (Beethoven), he was himself part of a five-generation lineage of musicians, and fathered four innovative composers. Carl Philipp, the most famous among them, benefited from his father’s teachings and interaction with musicians who came to visit. However, he emancipated himself from his father’s influence to create his own style, mastering the expression of contrasts and emotions, announcing the classical period.
