First concert in 2018 by the Baroque Orchestra as part of its “Playing with Forms” season.
To start the year off beautifully, Gilbert Bezzina, director of the Baroque Ensemble, invites the sparkling Camille Poul for a program of excerpts from Handel’s operas, with the full ensemble, in the splendid acoustics of the Anglican Church.

From the beginning of his illustrious career, Handel showed an interest in opera: at 20 years old, in 1705, his first two operas were performed in Hamburg. During his stay in Italy, where he went in 1707 for three years, he deepened his knowledge of Italian opera and composed his first major sacred works, including the oratorios Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno and La Resurrezione. But it was in London that Handel showcased his talents by establishing Italian opera, with Rinaldo in 1711, and later at the Royal Academy of Music with works such as Giulio Cesare and the magical Orlando in 1733.
The sparkling and unmissable Camille Poul offers us a journey through these major works of the famous composer, where her charm, virtuosity, and dramatic sense will powerfully embody these earthly and celestial loves.
An eclectic soprano, Camille Poul is embarking on a promising career, building a solid reputation as an artist with a dramatic and sparkling temperament, in a repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary, with a clear preference for Mozartian operas. Critics praise the qualities of her brilliantly touching voice, her charm, and her remarkable stage presence.
A trained flutist, her passion for opera was evident from childhood, singing as a soloist with the Maรฎtrise de Seine-Maritime in productions at the Rouen Opera (Die Zauberflรถte, Carmen, La Bohรจme, Tosca).
