The BaroQuiales in Sospel

Latest News

From July 5th to 12th, Sospel invites us to journey into Baroque art. The village, with its Saint Michael’s Cathedral, its penitents’ chapels, its square, the Bรฉvรฉra, and its old houses, creates the perfect setting to succumb to music in the silence of the night under the ceiling of stars.

The Baroquiales begin with love, a journey where this feeling is a question posed: what is love? Only music can answer. Then let us rediscover the viola da gamba and soprano songs. The festival honors the Baroque era, a time that was equestrian, with a show that blends horses and music.

On July 7th, the Baroque mass will be held at Saint Michaelโ€™s Cathedral. On the same day, we can visit the village. Vivaldi and his Four Seasons, followed by a costumed Baletti, will conclude this Sunday.

On July 11th, Shakespeare is 400 years old today, timeless and always in style. A ballet and dances from South India. Purcell: Dido and Aeneas, Virgil, Purcell.

The festival will conclude on July 12th with a Venetian Night’s Dream. How could we evoke and honor the Baroque without Venice? The curtain will fall thus on the festivities.

This festival is both a journey through time and space. It ignores borders. Baroque music and Sospel, isnโ€™t it a very old complicity?

One only needs to stroll, wander through the streets, alleys, and lanes of this village to be convinced.
