The Centenary Beach, located in the heart of the city center facing the Promenade des Anglais and the Verdure Theater, has been equipped for over twenty years with specific facilities for the disabled and people with reduced mobility. This allows them to enjoy the same summer pleasures as the able-bodied, such as swimming and lounging on the beach, thanks to the generosity of the Rotary Club Comtรฉ de Nice, which financed these “Tiralos” by organizing a large garage sale during the month of October.
Tiralo, what a funny name!
Yellow and blue with an aluminum frame, these strange devices are comparable to strollers for young children. Equipped with three wheels, the Tiralos are very easy to handle, as explained by Jonathan, one of the three lifeguards who assist the users: “The Tiralos are very easy to maneuver, people can transfer from their wheelchair to the Tiralo without any difficulty, the armrests are removable and serve as floats, there is no extra effort required for the person…”. This system, improved each year, is a godsend for disabled and mobility-reduced people: “Today, we can offer users parking spaces right next to the beach and direct access to the reception area. Everything has been planned to receive them under the best conditions…”.

The acquisition of these brand new Tiralos further improves the condition of disabled and mobility-reduced people in Nice. Tiralo, which Albert willingly compares to a true relief: “If Newton played a trick on me, Archimedes avenged me…”
