The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, and the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, Bernard Gonzalez, will ban access to the beaches of Nice, the port, and the Reserve starting at 10 p.m. on weekends.

On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings starting at 10 p.m., access to the beaches, the port, and the Reserve will be prohibited for safety reasons. These measures take effect today, until further notice.

These measures are not appreciated by everyone, as illustrated by David Nakache, president of the association all citizens: “The logic is simple: a few cause disturbances, so everyone gets penalized. Instead of ensuring the safety of the people of Nice and tourists by the sea, they are prohibited from accessing it,” he stated on Mediapart. David Nakache does not understand how a municipality, which spent 90 million euros on security in 2020, cannot guarantee safety on its beaches and its port. “The seaside, like the entire public space, must remain accessible to all. We want to live freely in the city, with humanity, and preserve the communal life in Nice,” he concludes.
