May 31st and June 1st, for the 18th edition of the Fête du Vélo, Nice, as the “ambassador city,” offers a weekend filled with activities around the bicycle.

Since 1996, the Fête du Vélo is a national event where more than 500,000 bicycle enthusiasts gather for a weekend of free, family-friendly, and festive events organized throughout France.

This year, the theme of the Fête du Vélo is “Cycling is my health!” As a healthy physical activity, cycling helps maintain fitness, overcome a sedentary lifestyle, and promote well-being! The 2014 edition adopts a “dress code,” inviting all participants to come dressed in blue.

According to the 2012 FPS/IPSOS Sports Observatory, with 21.4 million participants (42%), cycling is the top physical and sporting activity for the French! They use it both as a means of transportation and as a tool for sporting activities.

Initiated by the Bicycle Promotion Committee, and thanks to over 8,000 local volunteers, the Fête du Vélo brings together cycling enthusiasts through hundreds of initiatives, such as family rides, discovery trails, races or sports demonstrations, as well as flea markets, night rides, or art-themed tours…

The Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region, with 36.7% of its inhabitants being cyclists, offers 28 events, including a convergence in Marseille, cycling tours to discover heritage, BMX initiations, and a ride along the Promenade des Anglais.

More than 1,500 participants are expected for this festive and recreational event. The city of Nice emphasizes the physical and sporting aspect of cycling and invites everyone to explore the heritage during a bike ride.

At 7 am “Sportive Ride” from Théâtre de verdure, Promenade des Anglais, then 6202 towards Carros and the Pont Charles Albert

At 10:30 am, a mountain biking outing for experienced bikers (from age 12)

At 1:30 pm/3:00 pm/4:30 pm “Cyclo‐discovery + Mountain bike outing”: Discover heritage with a route passing by the Port, Place Garibaldi, and the Promenade du Paillon
