Born in Algeria, this Pied-Noir woman managed to overcome the painful trials of her life. Josseline gives the image of a “peaceful fighter” in favor of the Pieds Noirs.
Her passion is due to her experience. During her childhood, she lived through the Algerian War. In 1962, she was forced to leave her beloved country to land in Nice. In this city, only one thing reminds her of her homeland: the Mediterranean climate. Upon her arrival and for a few years, she faced racism. The term Pied Noir was pejorative in the 60s/70s.
But she did not give up: she worked as a supervisor at Calmette high school to make a living. Josseline Revel Mouroz lived far from her father who was relocated to the center of France during the repatriation. Through courage and willpower, she had a brilliant academic career at university. A professor in Preparatory Classes for Grandes Ecoles, she is also the President of the Pied Noir study center. Initially launched by friends in this associative adventure, Josseline Revel Mouroz now leads a fight to collect life stories of the repatriates, photos, and more.
Her ultimate goal: to reconstruct the “real” History. In this role, she organizes symposiums to make everyone aware of the experiences of the Pieds Noirs. These experiences are not fully known nor always well understood by the mainland French. Her center is a real source for learning more about the Pieds Noirs. More concerned than ever with the experiences of the Pieds Noirs, she has made her motivation her life!
