Starting from April 2011, Nice Côte d’Azur will be the first community in France to put into service on a large scale, the Car Sharing Device, exclusively with electric cars.
On the territory of Nice Côte d’Azur, 210 electric vehicles will eventually be distributed across 70 stations.
Each station will have 5 spaces, including 2 intended for owners of electric vehicles.
This configuration will allow individuals, especially those who do not have a garage equipped, to access an urban electric charging point.
In the same spirit, public parking lots in Nice will be gradually equipped with electric charging points for vehicles.
-A plus for urban ecology:
One shared car replaces between 4 and 8 personal vehicles;
Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (in NCA, 30% are due to cars);
Reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels;
Reduction in noise pollution;
Improvement in air quality and reduction in urban pollution;
Gain in parking spaces.
-It is therefore a 100% electric, 100% ecological, and 100% sustainable project
-Presentation of the project and timetable
Phase 1: A rapid deployment of vehicles and stations in the first quarter of 2011
•51 cars and 17 stations in service at the beginning of April 2011 (15 in Nice; 1 in Cagnes-sur-Mer, 1 in Saint-Laurent-du-Var).
•Including an offer of 10 Citroën Berlingo utility vehicles Powered by Venturi and 41 Peugeot iOn.
Phase 2: A varied offer from summer 2011 which will be completed in 2012
•129 vehicles and 43 stations in service before the end of 2011
•A variety of 3 models allowing for varied uses from summer 2011
•210 cars distributed across 70 stations by the end of 2012: the choice of models will depend on the lessons of 2011 and new offers from manufacturers.
-Amount of public investment
Nice Côte d’Azur will contribute to the development of the 70 stations at a rate of €40,000 per unit, totaling €2,800,000, half of which will be covered by the State, as Nice Côte d’Azur is part of the 12 projects selected by the State to experiment with this device. Nice Côte d’Azur will also grant an operating subsidy to the delegate, which will decrease over time depending on commercial revenue. This proactive approach is necessary to support the evolution of mentalities: encouraging people to favor soft modes of transportation.
The cost for the Urban Community: €1.4 million/year
-The vehicles
In service from April 2011: 41 Peugeot iOn and 10 Citroën Berlingo Venturi.
From summer 2011: a third model appears, the Mia from Heuliez.
This fleet will be renewed several times during the delegation according to the evolution of the electric vehicle market.
