The boos at the Fête de la Musique for Christian Estrosi: are the “laudatores” a good or a bad thing?

Latest News

“I want my friend Christian to come here because I want to hug him” – proclaimed Patrick Sebastien during the Fête de la musique evening, which took place this Saturday night on the Promenade des Anglais. And naturally, Christian Estrosi, who was waiting backstage, appeared on stage…

The episode is of no importance: what could be more normal than a variety show host playing the game to give the person who (dearly) paid for the evening a moment of notoriety.

Why be surprised? Probably, this scene was planned in the evening’s agenda.

After that, among a crowd of several tens of thousands of people, there will always be some who like to whistle, which is nothing new either. Thus, Christian Estrosi, who is not lacking in experience, said a few words of circumstance and, turning his back, ended the parade.

Besides, as the Gospel so rightly says, recognition is not of this world, and that the recipient of the whistles is the one who allowed the whistlers to enjoy a night of fun… that doesn’t matter either!

That this episode took on unexpected proportions and spread across the web everywhere is unfortunately not surprising either.

This is part of the modern world where every word is recorded, analyzed, commented on, and ultimately judged. It can be liked or disliked, but that’s how it is.

That’s why artists and politicians who know how it works, who play the game and benefit from it, should stick to their roles and avoid being the protagonists of a morality that they themselves, first and foremost, do not respect.

By trying to do too much… one often does it poorly.

Patrick Sébastien revisited the episode* and labeled those who booed Christian Estrosi as “jerks.” In fact, when one leaves their profession to join the “laudatores,” they should be more discreet and not rekindle a controversy that doesn’t need to exist.

Otherwise, they risk being appropriated the expression: accusatio non petita, excusatio (or more vulgarly, fellatio) manifesta.

Come on, a little sobriety!
