This initiative is part of the departmental action plan in favor of priority neighborhoods within the city policy. It addresses two main findings:
- In these neighborhoods, the unemployment rate is higher than elsewhere, primarily affecting young people aged 20-29 and women;
- The lack of local services and shops reveals that 75% of the residents wish to start their own business.
Through this bus that travels through the neighborhoods, Mr. Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, wished for the General Council and its partners, Caisse d’Epargne, the management shop (Association for Business Creation and Advice), and the Association for the Right to Economic Initiative, to meet these residents and provide them with resources and tools to help develop business creation projects. This includes supporting them in brainstorming, feasibility studies, financial planning, obtaining credit… up to business consolidation. The aim is to create micro-enterprises through micro-credit.
In France, small businesses (fewer than 20 employees) represent 96% of the 2.6 million businesses. 57% of these businesses do not employ any employees.
Since its launch in January 2008, this initiative has received 374 people seeking information on starting a business project. Most of these individuals are men, with 236 men and 138 women, and are primarily job seekers (156). Their projects are generally commercial in nature. By September 1, 2008, 15% of those received had entered the support phase to create a business, and 6 projects had led to actual business creation.
