“The Caged Soul” by Viano

Latest News

In France, each year a woman dies every three days, victims of domestic violence. A man every fifteen days. Let’s add to this all the people (men or women) who are the silent victims of narcissistic abusers, with psychological damage that is often irreversible or takes a long time to heal… A sad observation in the country of human rights… So as a heartfelt cry, Viano, the singer-songwriter, wanted to dedicate one of his creations to these victims: “The Soul in a Cage.” A song written at the request of the association “The Law of Silence.”

In all delicacy, in discretion, with subtle notes of piano against a background of bowed strings, we enter the confines of the composition. “And if I left this life without words. How many tears, how many sobs would it take to fill the desert, to overflow the sea?…” are the first words. The tone is set. The text is harsh, bloody, and poignantly truthful, unfortunately. From the first notes, we are caught in a whirlwind that evolves in a crescendo until the explosion. Through artistic talent and a strong interpretation, “The Soul in a Cage” grabs us by the guts. This music, these words convey the pain of domestic violence where a climate of fear and constant tension reigns, leading to guilt, loss of self-esteem, isolation, stress, and silence.

“To fall. To get up. To flee. To rebuild. In the abyss of hell, there is the solitary journey of the victims, the survivors of physical and psychological violence,” Viano emphasizes. He generously offered this song to the association “The Law of Silence,” a structure that works to fight against domestic violence victims and narcissistic abusers: “This composition denounces what women and men experience daily in France, often in the eyes of all, and who often suffer in total ignorance,” Viano highlights.

Let’s recall that these acts of violence fall under criminal law and are punished by law, and it is also for these reasons that we now see an explosion of psychological violence that can lead to suicide.

Once again, Viano delivers a powerful song that is more relevant than ever and will be in his next album.
