Today, Valérie Leulliot reveals herself in her first album titled “Caldeira.” “In the style of the defiant Cat Power or Françoise Hardy at the end of the sixties, Valérie Leulliot here gives the impression of being both deeply herself and astonishingly surprising, different yet immediately familiar.”

Nice-Première: Valérie Leulliot, you were part of the group “Autour de Lucie” for over 10 years, which were marked by four albums and hundreds of concerts. Today, you are embarking on a solo career, what triggered this?
Valérie Leulliot: There were two triggers:
The desire not to repeat myself and meeting Sébastien Lafargue.
N-P: Why is your first solo album titled “Caldeira”?
V.L.: “Caldeira” is a Portuguese word. It’s a volcanic eruption inside the volcano. It also means “cauldron.” It’s a word I find evocative, poetic, and which quite well defines me.
N-P: How would you define it?
V.L.: This album is a confidence.
N-P: What are its musical colors?
V.L.: A fairly Latin melancholy.
N-P: One of your songs was written by Miossec, how did this meeting happen?
V.L.: We’ve known each other for about a decade. I called him because I was stuck on a text. His words are a true gift, and Christophe is a very tender person.
N-P: “At the turn,” what is there?
V.L.: The unknown.
N-P: What is your “Landing Spot”?
V.L.: My friends, my books, music, Corsica, and my cat.
N-P: If you had to choose “a place,” which would it be?
V.L.: Cassis.
N-P: Speaking of places, are you familiar with the French Riviera?
V.L.: Very little. I know the countryside a bit better.
N-P: Will we have the pleasure of seeing you there one day?
V.L.: I hope very soon for a concert. Probably in the fall.
