The Cavigal Night 2018 is not just any vintage, but a special one dedicated to an anniversary: the 75th birthday of an emblematic club of Nice’s sports scene.
Diego Noto, its general president since 2009, will certainly remind this in his speech addressing the authorities, sports personalities, managers, and athletes (current and former): history is “magistra vitae,” nothing is possible if we disregard its origins.
There were five visionaries, whose names we must remember: Henri Clair, François Finocchi, Henri Verola, Pierre Arco, André Bettini, who had the idea and committed to creating this club.
They came from different, probably rival clubs, but shared a common vision: “Let’s combine our efforts and form a single association. Let’s choose the first syllable of each of our three clubs, this name will be the new surname of our merger.” Thus, the melodious name of CAVIGAL was born.
These founding fathers did not know at the time that CAVIGAL would become a true institution.
This evening we must say it in addressing their memory.
*The Cavigal is a multi-sport club established in 1943 from the association of three clubs from Nice: Casino, Victorine, and Gallia.
Today, with its 13 sections, 3,000 members, and several thousand alumni, the club continues to uphold the “Cavigal Spirit” instilled by the great leaders who have worked so hard within the club to give it its fullness and purpose.
