The Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee of Alpes-Maritimes, as part of the social and civic actions it develops, has decided to implement a program to take 50 children and their supervisors, who are not going on vacation this summer, to the Sports Caravan stage in La Brigue on Saturday, August 10, 2019, in collaboration with the French Popular Relief.
The CDOS 06 covers the entirety of the transportation and the day for these young children from the neighborhoods of Nice. It’s an opportunity to spend a day in the village of La Brigue, a village in the Haute-Vallée de la Roya, at 800 meters altitude, and thus enjoy the “Sports Caravan” event. The lucky kids will discover and be able to try different sports and recreational activities under the guidance of qualified educators.
“The Sports Caravan is a sports initiation event but not only that,” says Philippe MANASSERO, the president of CDOS 06, “our goal is also to promote social connections and convey values of respect, friendship, sharing, and solidarity. Simply the values of Olympism.”
A Caravan in “sport and environment” mode
The Sports Caravan travels to towns in the Alpes-Maritimes, whether they are small, medium, or large. The 2019 campaign will celebrate sport as an effective tool for promotion and mobilization to defend Olympic values.
The main theme this year is educating and raising awareness among young people to better understand and protect the environment. That is why CDOS 06 has set up scientific animation workshops on the theme “sport and environment.”
Other important initiatives include civic actions with the firefighters of SDIS 06 to teach life-saving techniques, with the BPDJ 06 gendarmerie on addictive behaviors, with selective sorting with the Community of Agglomeration of the French Riviera, with educational workshops “Red card to violence,” and also a cultural action with the national sports museum through educational games and exhibitions.
On Saturday, August 10, the Caravan will stop in La Brigue, at Nice Square, and will conclude its summer journey on August 18 in Valberg.
