The ceremonies in remembrance of the 1944 bombings in Nice

On May 26, 1944, the districts of Riquier, Pasteur, Abattoirs, and Rรฉpublique were bombed by the Royal Air Force and the US Air Force, targeting the Saint-Roch railway site to stop any traffic and disrupt the German occupation.

The toll was nearly 300 dead, 100 missing, 480 injured, and 600 buildings destroyed or damaged. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary, a memorial route with wreath-laying is organized at various monuments and memorials erected in memory of the bombing victims.

The program

10:00 am: Ceremony – Place de la Brigue

10:15 am: Ceremony in memory of the railway workers who were bombing victims at the machine depot yard of the Saint-Roch station

10:40 am: Ceremony in memory of the deceased of the Riquier district at Place Auguste Blanqui, attended by 22 fifth-grade students from Bischoffsheim school who will perform La Marseillaise and the song of the partisans.

11:05 am: Ceremony in front of the Jean Macรฉ Stele at the intersection of Marรฉchal Lyautey Avenue/General Tordo Street (attended by 24 fifth-grade students from Jean Macรฉ II school who will perform La Marseillaise).

In attendance will be Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice; Jean-Marc Giaume, Municipal Councilor delegated to History and Memory Transmission; & Olivier Robaut, Municipal Councilor delegated to Veterans.
