On Friday, September 7th, the departmental charter for the reception of young children with disabilities in early childhood establishments in the city of Cannes was signed. This involves integration, support for families, and finally, recognition.
Today, 11 children are welcomed by early childhood professionals in the city of Cannes thanks to the departmental charter signed this morning at the Town Hall. This is a project on which the General Council and the Family Allowance Fund (CAF) have collaborated, agreeing on a long-term commitment to continue identifying the needs of families and young children suffering from all kinds of disabilities. Thus, Mr. Eric Ciotti, deputy, president of the General Council, Bernard Brochand, deputy mayor of Cannes, and Mrs. Daniรจle Desens, president of the Family Allowance Fund, have committed to continuing efforts to integrate young children with disabilities. In essence, it is about organizing specific reception and monitoring of the child, ensuring coordination between families, the reception team, and the care team, and training staff to optimize the quality of care.
Work has begun throughout the department, with 32 children with disabilities currently welcomed in early childhood establishments in Nice.
Let’s remember that the law of February 11, 2005, enshrines the right to so-called normal schooling for each disabled child, yet there is no obligation for establishments to accept them; a contradiction that leaves many puzzled. The charter, however, leaves room for optimism. Nicole Mat, head of early childhood at the Cannes town hall, speaks of a real “realization of long-standing work.” The professional does not forget that the city of Cannes has “always welcomed young children with disabilities” and wishes for this to continue.
