The day before yesterday, at the Vauban vocational high school, Claire Lovisi, the rector of the Academy of Nice, and Patrick Allemand, the first vice-president of the PACA region, presented the Charter of Secularism to a class of the institution.

Yesterday’s French class at Vauban High School was a bit different than usual. The class welcomed the rector of the academy, Claire Lovisi, and the first vice-president of the region, Patrick Allemand. The purpose of their visit was to present the Charter of Secularism. This charter has been displayed since the start of the school year in all educational institutions, and teachers are going to teach it to their students this year with the help of new resources.

Not everyone knows what secularism is, much like the students who asked essential questions such as: “Is secularism a religion?”, “Does it eliminate religion?” or “Isn’t it a reduction of our freedom?”. These are important questions to which the teacher was able to respond and will continue to do so throughout the year.

The speakers also explained that this charter is part of the school’s mission to pass on the values of the Republic. This transmission is aided by symbols such as the flag, the motto, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, and the charter in question. This charter is meant to remind everyone of the rules that allow us to live together. Everyone must understand it, and it will serve as a support for the work of teachers this year and in the ones to come.
