The Charter of the Mercantour National Park approved by the State

The Prime Minister and the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy have approved the Charter of the Mercantour National Park. The 28 municipalities within the park’s territory will be called upon to decide on their adherence to the Charter during the first half of 2013.

A new era is opening for the Mercantour National Park, towards a better synergy between the protection of the core and the sustainable development of its adhesion area on one hand, and towards a new mode of relationship between the park’s public institution and local stakeholders, on the other hand.

The approval of the Charter marks the culmination of 4 intense years of unprecedented consultation led by the National Park with local stakeholders, among which the 28 municipalities of the park are at the forefront, for the construction of this ambitious project promoting an exceptional territory.

The Charter project was adopted by the Board of Directors of the public institution of the Mercantour National Park on July 19, 2011. Since then, it has successfully passed all stages of local and national consultation, up to the Council of State, the ultimate stage before the signing of decree nยฐ2012-1541 on December 28, 2012.
