The Christ the Redeemer of Rio illuminated in the colors of Nice and its Baie des Anges

Latest News

After the statue of Apollo on Place Masséna in Nice was illuminated for the Christmas holidays, today it is the majestic Christ the Redeemer overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, from the top of Mount Corcovado, that is put under the spotlight by the artist Gaspare Di Caro, with the theme of Nice and its Bay of Angels!

The statue had already been illuminated by the artist after the attack on July 14, 2016, in Nice, in tribute to the victims.

Originally from Antibes, the artist Gaspare Di Caro is part of the Locative-art movement. His inspirational mindmark is the spirit of the Ecole de Nice and the New Realists. This technique, dating from the 15th century but decidedly modern, allows the artist to project light on a perfectly defined surface, thus eliminating the problem of light pollution.

His ambition is to link light installation art and energy savings. To achieve this, Gaspare Di Caro has developed small-sized projectors, low in energy consumption, that can be used permanently.
