Latest News

For the fourth consecutive year, the town of Saint Etienne de Tinée is organizing its Christmas Market, which will take place this Sunday, December 15th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On its stands, you will find high-quality artisanal and local products (jewelry, crafts, leather goods, regional products, delicatessen, woolens, and toys).

noel_st_etienne.jpg First and only Christmas market in the Upper Country labeled “Eco-event”: This year, the town has aimed to label its Christmas market as an “eco-event.”

By signing the “Eco-event” charter, Thérèse Fabron, Mayor of Saint Etienne de Tinée makes this Christmas market the first in the metropolitan area and the first event in the Upper Country to be labeled following this approach. The goal is for all municipalities in the Metropolis to follow this path.

The town of Saint Etienne de Tinée has implemented the following actions:

Reducing paper consumption by organizing the event digitally and using only recycled paper,

Encouraging the use of public transport: advertising for the 1 euro bus (Azur Lines bus: example with departure from Nice at 9 a.m. and return around 6 p.m.)

Providing tables and chairs to exhibitors to avoid transporting materials,

Using a wood-heated hall, as part of an ongoing centralized heating project,

Limiting waste production: no refreshment stalls, an aperitif after the inauguration with reusable plastic glasses, no cartons to recycle, tap water…

Encouraging local solidarity initiatives: for the aperitif, the only catering service will be provided by the charity “Les Chats du Mercantour” based in Saint Etienne;

Encouraging sustainable local economy: all stands offer local, artisanal, or fair trade products. This was a mandatory selection criterion. Local (Alpes-Maritimes) or neighboring Italian exhibitors were favored. All village restaurants, as well as those in the resort, will be open.

Reducing the environmental impact of events organized in the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis territory

The “eco-event” initiative is one of the actions of the metropolitan Agenda 21 (2013-2018) and includes 6 commitments:

Integrating and ensuring the process is monitored in the event organization,

Communicating in an environmentally respectful manner,

Implementing sustainable travel management,

Saving energy and natural resources and reducing nuisances,

Reducing, sorting, reusing, and recycling waste,

  • Purchasing eco-responsibly for food and promotional products.
