The Cinematographic Meetings In & Out: An Ode to Diversity

Latest News

From June 25 to June 30, the 11th Nice Queer Film Festival will take place during Pride Month, in order to showcase films and individuals, while conveying a message of love for diversity and respect for rights. Organized by the Nice-based association Les Ouvreurs, it will be held in three different venues: the Rialto cinema, Le Mercury, and the Louis Nucera Library.

Two photographs for two events. One and the same message for two distinct eras. In 1969, the Stonewall riots are considered one of the first examples of the struggle by gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities against a system leading a persecution campaign. LGBT activism was born. The photograph depicts a rebellious and determined youth posing in front of the Stonewall Inn. The second photograph is a portrait of Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera captured by Cosmos agency photographer, Frรฉdรฉric Noy. This activist (since she was 19 years old) is considered the “Founding Mother” of the Ugandan LGBT+ civil rights movement. Again, the same look, that of strength and courage. Years have passed, but the struggles continue.

The 11th Nice Queer Film Festival offers a selection of 15 films and hosts a panel of 9 guests. Among them, we note the presence of director Cรฉline Sciamma, who will screen her film *Portrait of a Lady on Fire* (Winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and 2019 Queer Palm) in a preview. Charles Berling, Jacques Martineau, Julie Allione, and รˆmilie Jouvet will also be part of the festival.
