This Thursday, the City of Nice invites you to watch the broadcast of the ballet Don Quixote at 6 PM on Azur TV. A 90-minute show on the eve of Christmas Eve as a Christmas gift to the elderly.

Typically, for the Christmas holidays, the City of Nice, through the seniors’ department, offers numerous activities for the elders as well as two shows at the Nice Opera for holders of the Mรฉtropole Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur Senior Plus card. This year, in an unprecedented health context, since seniors cannot go to the Nice Opera, the Opera is coming to them!

Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, president of the Mรฉtropole Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur, wished to offer all seniors, particularly those who are isolated, a choreographic gift: โ€œDon Quixoteโ€ by the Ballet Nice Mรฉditerranรฉe directed by French choreographer Eric Vu-An, accompanied by the famous music composed by Ludwig Minkus.

Thus, the seniors’ department, led by Franรงoise Monier, deputy in charge of seniors and intergenerational affairs, and the Nice Opera, led by Marc Concas, Municipal Deputy Advisor at the Opera, and Gaรซl Nofri, deputy to the Mayor, in partnership with Azur TV, invite you to discover this ballet, broadcasted on Thursday, December 24, 2020, at 6 PM on Azur TV channel.

Don Quixote is a live performance lasting 90 minutes. It is a large-format piece offered to the public: a superb three-act show, driven by about forty dancers, that swiftly captivates with its lively pace. In reviving this ballet by Marius Petipa, Eric Vu-An, who also plays the title role, has completely reimagined it. His version of Don Quixote is full of passion and twists.

In the heart of a festive and colorful Spain, it closely entwines the fate of Cervantes’ famous windmill-fighting hero with those of the charming Kitri and her young lover Basil. Yet, in wanting to marry his daughter to a wealthier nobleman, the father of the lovely girl propels the two lovers into a story rich with twists and misunderstandings. The pantomime is delightful, and the show highlights all that is brilliant in academic dance.

Stay tuned to Azur TV broadcasts to watch โ€œDon Quixoteโ€ as your Christmas show.
