While the infection rate exceeds 600 cases per 100,000 and remains above the national average, the City Hall of Nice, following a meeting of the local Scientific Council, has decided to strengthen health safety measures to better manage the ongoing problematic health situation.
Seniors and young people are the priority targets of the new initiatives announced this Tuesday by Christian Estrosi, who commented: “I prefer the health pass to the …health confinement”.
Among these are:
- The launch of the booster vaccination campaign for seniors over 80 years old starting this week
The 32,000 people over 80 who were vaccinated by the Metropolis will be contacted by mail starting this week to offer them a booster shot 6 months after the injection of their second dose. They will be able to get vaccinated from August 30th (the same applies for residents of nursing homes).
- The announcement of certain measures to facilitate young people’s access to vaccination in schools or sports clubs from the first days of the school year.
In the department, 27,000 young people aged 12 to 17 have received a first dose of the vaccine, which is 35% of this age group. 50% are expected to be reached by early September.
Starting from the school year, dedicated slots will be reserved for junior high school students, high school students, university students, and apprentices on Wednesday afternoons for walk-in vaccinations at the Palais des Expositions. In the Universities, two fixed vaccination sites will be set up at Valrose and Carlone in partnership with the University of Cรดte d’Azur (plus mobile teams). All sports club presidents will receive a letter reminding them of the importance of vaccination.
- Support for merchants who comply with the legal obligation of health pass control but face additional costs as a result.
To continue to assist them, support their activity, and help them apply the health pass, the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis will grant them a fixed aid of 500 euros (to be presented at the next Metropolitan Council), in addition to all the direct aid already provided to more than 4,800 businesses, nearly 3,500 of which are in Nice.
- Continued support for seniors affected by the digital divide to facilitate their access to the health pass
By creating a simple card for them, in credit card format, on which the person’s QR code will be printed.
Furthermore, the Municipal Police will strengthen checks on establishments that must enforce health pass verification.
Additionally, an order will be issued to close the Promenade du Paillon from 9 PM to prevent gatherings.
