The city of Nice celebrates Children’s Rights Week.

For this week from November 14th to 19th, the city of Nice is organizing Children’s Rights Week. This initiative is being carried out in partnership with UNICEF.

This week offers numerous activities such as conferences and workshops within schools, museums, or libraries. Children and adolescents will be able to learn about the concept of the “Right to Peace,” which applies at home, at school, or on social networks.

This event is organized alongside the renewal of the “Child-Friendly City” label for the City of Nice. Christian Estrosi and his City Council are committed to fostering a welcoming environment for the youth in Nice. They are determined to continue this effort during the 2020/2026 mandate.

For this week, two key events should be noted.

Tuesday, November 15 at 9 AM at the Mediterranean University Center (Reserved for school children of Nice).

Presentation of the projects by students from 14 participating classes to the 2nd edition of the children’s rights competition.

Saturday, November 19 from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Garibaldi House of Associations. (For families and child professionals). Free admission

Crossed perspectives on children’s rights: round tables with experts on children’s right to peace (at home, at school, in their country), moderated by Marie-Pierre Lazard, Municipal Councillor dedicated to the Child-Friendly City label and the Family Rights and Duties Council, Specialist lawyer in family law.

-2 PM: “Fighting against all forms of violence: intrafamily violence, ordinary educational tensions”

  • Martine Ouaknine, Deputy Mayor, in charge of legal affairs and victims’ rights (via video).
  • Laurence Lewest, Head of the Childhood, Family, and Parenting Support Division at the Departmental Union of Family Associations (UDAF 06).
  • Maître Sandrine Reboul, lawyer at the Nice Bar, specializing in the defense of child victims.
  • Dr. Philippe Babe, Head of the pediatric emergency department at the Lenval Hospital in Nice.

-3:15 PM: “School bullying and cyberbullying”:

  • Laurence Navalesi, Municipal Councillor sub-delegated to relations with private schools and religious affairs,
  • Frédérique Klein, Deputy to the Academic Director of National Education Services,
  • Magali Gilly, lawyer at the Nice Bar and president of the Young Lawyers Union (UJA),
  • Two ASVP officers from the Nice municipal police who intervene in schools.

-4:30 PM: “How to talk to children about war?” :

  • Marie-Christine Fix-Varnier, Municipal Councillor dedicated to veterans, the Nation-Army link, and the Universal National Service (SNU),
  • Damien Scolari, psychologist at the Victim Support House,
  • Hager Ben Aouissi, President of the association “A Voice for Children: July 14, 2016”,
  • Frédérique Klein, Deputy to the Academic Director of National Education Services.

Note also that there will be an intergenerational karaoke on the theme of peace. Meet on Garibaldi Square from 2 PM to 5 PM.
