The WHO Healthy Cities Network, created in 1986, now includes 92 cities and public inter-municipal cooperation establishments (EPCI) of various densities and political colors across the entire French territory (mainland and overseas).
It encourages a transversal approach to place health at the heart of all public policies towards a broad conception of the health of living beings with the notion of One Health*. One of the major focuses is also new governance with increased citizen participation.
The city of Nice is also part of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network. The RFVSOMS is connected with the European network and the major concepts of the six Ps (People, Participation, Prosperity, Peace, Planet, Places) from the Copenhagen Consensus, ratified in February 2018 by 140 mayors for “better health and more happiness in cities, for all and for everyone.” The Copenhagen Consensus sets the health strategy in Europe for 2020-2030.
