In this unprecedented health crisis context, the protection of all citizens, including those without a stable home, is one of the priorities.
Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, stated: “I want us to be able to help them at all levels and that nothing is lacking for them.”
Thus, 70 people are housed at the Abbรฉ Pierre night shelter (exceptionally open 24/7), 29 at the El Nouzah emergency shelter, and 30 at the Night Halt (also open continuously). 269 people are accommodated in several hotels: mainly the most vulnerable (women, those with comorbidities, and the elderly). 77 people are also housed at the Sacha Guitry Street youth hostel (capacity of 82 places).
In all accommodation facilities, meals are offered to the users.
The central municipal kitchen provides meals to those housed in hotels through Secours Populaire, to associations distributing food, as well as to social grocery stores upon request.
Thus, between 1,000 and 1,400 meals or picnic baskets are distributed per day, along with cutlery, water bottles…food supplies depending on the requests of various associations: Secours Populaire, MIR, Suspended Coffee, ADAM, Salvation Army, Economical Stove, and Saint Vincent de Paul (list subject to change).
The Integrated Reception and Orientation Service (SIAO) ensures individualized follow-up, a type of social and health monitoring, for all individuals and households housed at the hotel in close connection with the social emergency services.
To further enhance sheltering for the most vulnerable, a new site has just been established for all individuals wishing to protect themselves: the Pasteur gymnasium.
With a capacity of 60 places for men (places for women are still available at the Night Halt), it will open at 6:30 PM tonight and operate continuously 24/7, offering accommodation, meals, sanitary facilities, and social connection.
