Aware of the importance for every citizen to participate in the democratic life of the country, the city of Nice launched a wide awareness campaign at the beginning of February, particularly targeting the neighborhoods.
A few days before the deadline for registration on the electoral rolls set for March 4, the City of Nice is mobilizing to encourage citizens, especially young people and residents of priority neighborhoods, to participate in the upcoming presidential and legislative elections of 2022.
Indeed, in 2017, more than 7.6 million French people were “inadequately registered,” including 51% of those aged 25-29. This significant number must be added to the 3 to 4 million citizens who are “not registered.”
In the last elections in France in June 2021, nearly 85% of residents in the priority neighborhoods of the City Policy abstained. Non-registration and abstention mean fewer than two out of ten young people in these neighborhoods express themselves during elections, creating a significant democratic gap.
That is why, after a social media awareness campaign, all the social landlords in the neighborhoods of Ariane, Moulins, and Liserons posted flyers in building lobbies reminding residents of the procedure for registering on the electoral rolls.
