The Climate Energy Plan of Alpes-Maritimes: Concrete Actions and Encouraging Results

Latest News

The Climate Energy Plan is primarily an investment plan aiming for a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from residents and long-term visitors, which equals 1.5 Mt CO2 (tonnes of CO2 equivalent).

For the 2016 edition of the annual Climate Plan Forum in Alpes-Maritimes, the territory’s energy data (gas, electricity, hydrocarbons) confirm the reduction in emissions.

Adapting to climate change involves actions implemented in response to global warming, water savings, adapting ski resorts to less snow, preserving biodiversity, monitoring ocean acidification, and more.

Overall, all the actions already undertaken have saved 663,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent since 2009 (the start of the Climate Plan). They will save approximately 835,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent by 2020.

The building, construction, and planning sector has enabled a reduction of 93,000 TeCO2 this year. By 2020, it is expected to save 135,000 TeCO2.

The Transport sector has achieved a reduction of 320,000 TeCO2 in 2016, and more than 370,000 TeCO2 by 2020, taking into account local and national measures.

The development of Renewable Energies (RE), hydropower, solar energy, and the renovation of public lighting has saved 70,000 TeCO2 in 2016. By 2020, this reduction will rise to more than 110,000 TeCO2.

Sustainable economic development has led to a reduction of 180,000 TeCO2 in 2016 and 220,000 TeCO2 by 2020. It includes sustainable tourism, technological innovation, waste treatment, and more.
