Starting tomorrow until July 1, 2024, the Commedia dell’arte Festival is arriving in Nice. Organized by the association La Semeuse, this festival brings together the best European companies. For its 9th edition, La Semeuse invites you to rediscover classics or great narratives over 11 days.
The Commedia dell’arte Festival in Nice invites you, for its ninth edition, to discover a traditional and popular theatrical art that originated in Italy in the 16th century. This art highlights “gesture, posture, speech, and mask. In turn, acrobatics, juggling, fencing, mime, singing, and dancing.” From June 20 to July 1, the Commedia dell’arte Festival will let you rediscover classics or great narratives like The School for Wives by Molière, Don Quixote by Cervantes, Merlin or the Cid and many others. The Shows
Thursday, June 20, you will be able to attend the show Merlin the Disenchanter. It will take place at Place Saint-François at 8:30 PM, with free entry. The show, in French, will last 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Friday, June 21, will feature “The Punished Braggart” (Lo sbruffone punito), at 6:30 PM. The show, in Italian, will be held at the Consulate General of Italy. Entry is free, but reservations must be made via email.
Saturday, June 22, at 8 PM, the Francis Gag Theater will host: The School for Wives by Molière. It will last 1 hour and 40 minutes, and entry costs €12.
Sunday, June 23, El Cid will take place at 8 PM at the La Providence Cultural Center. The show will be in Spanish. With an entry fee of €12, it will last 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Tuesday, June 25 and Monday, July 1, you can attend: “The Peace” after Aristophanes at Agora Las Planas at 6 PM on Tuesday, and at General Lecuyer Park on Monday. Entry will be free, and the show will last 50 minutes.
Thursday, June 27, “The Lovers of Paradise”, after Jacques Prévert, will be at Square des Moulins “Les Jacarandas” at 5 PM. Entry will be via Rue Françoise Giroud, and the show will last 1 hour and 15 minutes
Friday, June 28, the commedia dell’arte presents an “absurd journey of a contemporary Harlequin” at 6:30 PM. It will take place at the Social Center La Ruche in Nice, lasting 1 hour.
Saturday, June 29, at 8 PM, “Don Quixote” by Miguel de Cervantes will be performed at the Jean Giono Nursery School. At 10-12 Rue des Arbousiers, in Carros. The show will last 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Workshops and Master Class
Saturday, June 22, Frédéric REY invites you to a Master Class/workshop from 10 AM-12 PM to 1 PM-5 PM. It will take place at the Théâtre de la Semeuse, at 2 Montée Auguste Kerl in Nice. The cost will be €60.
Saturday, June 29, will feature a MIME Master Class on the universal language of the physical actor, with Elena Serra, from 1 PM to 5 PM at the Théâtre de la Semeuse. The cost will be €40.
Sunday, June 30, a commedia workshop for children will be held with Pierre Petitfrère from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Théâtre de la Semeuse. The price for this workshop is €25.
