On Saturday, November 15, at the Palais des Rois Sardes, Max Gallo, a historian, writer from Nice, and member of the Acadรฉmie franรงaise, will introduce the debates of the conference “The Great War, Words and Writings.” He will be assisted by Jรฉrรดme Bรฉglรฉ, deputy editor of Le Point.

Around several round tables coordinated by Patrice Zehr, editor-in-chief of the Monegasque monthly La Principautรฉ, Michel Field, a journalist on LCI and Europe 1, and Christophe Bourseiller, a journalist and writer, historians specializing in the Great War, journalists, and writers will highlight the importance of writing in a conflict that shook the world.

Echoing the hundreds of documents gathered during the major collection organized at the departmental archives by the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, they will discuss the correspondence of the Poilus, abundant and essential for their morale and that of their families, but also literature, the press, speeches, opening multiple perspectives on this troubled period.

Between the debates, extracts from the works of the attending historians, soldiers’ correspondences, and literary texts will be read by the actor Charles Berling.
