Following the significant rainy episodes in November and December 2019, post-flood inspections of the structures revealed substantial erosion of the bank up to the supporting structures of the Provence railway line. The risk of endangerment of the railway line necessitated the urgent implementation of safety works, which were authorized by state services.
“SMIAGE, fully mobilized following the rainy episodes at the end of 2019, was able to resume flood control development works, in compliance with current health regulations. Thanks to this resumption, we will be able to ensure the sustainability of the bank and the Provence railway line,” stated Charles Ange Ginรฉsy during a site visit to check on the progress.
The construction site, which began in January, was halted on March 13 as part of measures to combat the spread of COVID-19. The work has resumed and will also allow for the permanent restoration of the chemin des Carriers, an essential access road for the maintenance and monitoring of the Var flood protection structures. This work is expected to be completed in August 2020.
