The contagious kindness of the left-wing groups in Nice

Latest News

Emerging battered and bruised from the ballot boxes in the first round of municipal elections last Sunday, left-wing associative movements have regained their momentum.

The confinement measures taken to combat the epidemic have naturally hit the most vulnerable subjects first in various ways.

This presented an opportunity for the diverse left-wing factions to make their voices heard.

Each on their own, as usual, isnโ€™t it?

The first to speak outโ€”chronologicallyโ€”was David Nakache (Tous Citoyens/VIVA!) who addressed the situation of the homeless: “Cannes is opening a shelter for the homeless at the Palais des Festivals, Montpellier has opened two gyms, Toulouse two clinics… When will Nice react? Solidarity and the fight against the spread of Covid-19 go hand in hand, and I urge the mayor of Nice to quickly take measures to protect the homeless.”

In the same vein, Xavier Garcia (PS) aims to be proactive but with nuances: “Calls are multiplying for Nice to follow this initiative by opening the Palais Acropolis or gyms. […] The only solution from a health perspective is the requisition of hotel rooms. The cost for the community would be less than a satisfactory sanitary adaptation of a convention center or gyms.”

Similarly, Patrick Allemand (Nice au coeur) had called on the City Hall to “reorganize food aid for the most disadvantaged.” The response came from Lauriano Azinheinha and is structured in different points.
